Hi folks~ I have been a busy bee with core biz (which is currently 90% funding activities of RRC) and contributing to Occupy Cairns~ a way to focus on local issues, such as reusing and recycling.
Today, I am researching our recycle and upcycle options in Cairns, with regards to TVs; Thank you to Sarah Flenley for putting the question to me, ‘Where in Cairns?’
Firstly, I want to say that I really like the Cairns Regional Council motto: Waste is a resource ~ yeah! That’s what we here at RRC are talking about.
According to the Cairns Regional Council Waste Management Strategy: 2010-2015, Waste Strategy Action Plans:
Action 9: Identify and develop efficient and effective recycling and collection options for household hazardous waste and emerging hazardous waste types.
Key elements: Introduce collection facilities in line with national product stewardship schemes particularly for televisions, computers, tyres and mercury containing lamps [Completion Target: 2012-2013 (p. 10)].
So~ until an actual recycling facility is created within Cairns, what are our option?
- Buy-Back Shop (Thu-Sun, 8:30-5:30pm)
- Sell, swap or giveaway~ the new owner can add a set top box to pick up many channels (tho not all) Meanwhile, I am putting together a map for the page, CNS Recycling Places…stay tuned~
